Weinstein accuser Asia Argento paid teen who made sex assault claim

Asia Argento, who accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct previous year and became a vocal member of the #MeToo movement, reportedly reached a settlement with her own accuser according to a bombshell report by The New York Times on Sunday (August 19).

Argento and Bennett subsequently settled out of court, with Argento agreeing to pay $380,000 over the course of a year and a half, starting with an initial payment of $200,000 that was made in April.

Bennett's accusations, and later the arrangement for restitution, are documented in exchanges between Argento and Bennett's respective lawyers, which the Times notes it received from an "encrypted email by an unidentified party".

His lawyer Gordon K. Sattro said in the intent to sue, "His feelings about that day were brought to the forefront recently when Ms. Argento took the spotlight as one of the many victims of Harvey Weinstein". As part of the deal, Bennett handed over to Argento the rights to a photograph of the two of them in bed.

Actress and director Asia Argento, a leading voice in the #MeToo movement, quietly paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to her own sex assault accuser - a former child actor who once played Argento's son, a report said Sunday.

Argento told the magazine that she continued to have a relationship with Weinstein because she was afraid of angering him.

Weinstein has been accused of sexual misconduct by over 60 women since The New York Times, and The New Yorker documented decades of alleged sexual misconduct and sexual assault involving a number of women in detailed, Pulitzer-prize winning articles in October.
