Kerala Nun Rape: Protesters Allege Sabotage by DGP, to Move Court

The Kerala nun, who has accused Bishop of Jalandhar of raping her multiple times, has written to The Vatican seeking justice. On the basis of her complaint, the Kuravilangad police registered Crime No. 746 of 2018 of Kuruvilangad Police for offences punishable under Sections 342, 376 (2)(k) and (n), 377, and 506 (I) IPC.

Poonjar MLA PC George on Saturday triggered a huge controversy after he made a derogatory remark against the nun who has accused a bishop of the Roman Catholic Church of allegedly raping her. Then Bishop Franco asked our superiors to send her to another state where we have more than 3 communities, to a place where only junior sisters were there.

Catholic reformation organisations and nuns from a convent in Kottayam, to which the "rape" survivor belonged, have extended their support to the survivor. "The complainant nun needs justice from the government".

Mulakkal has claimed innocence and said the truth will come out in the police investigation.

The nuns also alleged that police probing the case were trying to sabotage the investigation.

Heavy Rain, Storms Expected Through Sunday
Wind shear is expected to decrease over the weekend as the storm moves west, so Florence will strengthen again into a hurricane. Some parts of Eagle Country could see three to five inches of rain by the end of the storms on Sunday .

Hurricane Florence Expected to Become Category 4, May Strike the Carolinas
Across the Southeast, people were urged to put together emergency supply kits, prepare their homes and research evacuation routes. North Carolina is the nation's third-largest pork producer, according to data compiled by the National Pork Board.

Carolinas brace for potentially devastating Hurricane Florence
Florence may make landfall anywhere from New England to the Carolinas as soon as Thursday as a Category 3 or higher hurricane. The other storms — Tropical Storm Isaac and Tropical Storm Helene — are both expected to become hurricanes Sunday or Monday.

The nun's family said they would initiate legal action against George for hurting her sentiments. He further went on to question her character. "We can not crucify an innocent soul based on such allegations", reported News18.

What does the police have to say?

Coming to the conclusion of the case all by himself, the MLA said that no one has doubt that nun is a prostitute.

He added that no other nun had filed evidence against the bishop and that there was not of yet any scientific evidence to substantiate the rape charges. "Police are interrogating the petitioner, not the accused, and we believe they are under pressure from political parties and the church". Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kottayam, K Subhash had earlier on August 13 informed the High Court that the investigation is going on effectively and in an impartial manner.

An independant MLA, PC George, in Kerala has said that the nun who is demanding action against sexual assault on her by a Jalandhar-based bishop, is a prostitute.

Today the MLA has been summoned by the Nation Commisssion for Women. In 1990, two nuns were raped in the course of a robbery at a church in Gajraula, Uttar Pradesh, the case received worldwide attention, but the trial turned into a travesty of justice when the police tried to establish that the suspects were in custody at the time when the crime was committed.
