White House Corrects Trump’s Tweet on GDP, Unemployment

"I complained plenty about Fox News, but you never heard me threaten to shut them down, or call them 'enemies of the people'".

President Trump was incorrect when he tweeted that more than a century had passed since quarterly economic growth last outpaced the jobless rate, the White House's top economist said Monday.

"Since 1948, there have been 63 quarters with a GDP growth rate higher than avg quarterly unemployment rate", Fox News Research wrote in a tweet, listing the most recent quarters with GDP growth higher than the unemployment rate as Q2 2018 and Q1 2006.

"The history of thought about how errors happen is not something I can engage in, because from the initial fact to what the president said, I don't know the whole chain of command", Hassett said. It's something that President Donald Trump likes to brag about, especially as we approach the midterm elections. Yet it was 50 words about the media that undercut Obama's credibility with the absurd claim that he - unlike Trump - didn't "threaten the freedom of the press".

The name Kevin Hassett was trending on Twitter this afternoon after the White House economic adviser held a wild press briefing in-which he claimed Donald Trump is responsible for positive economic numbers, admitted the president pushed a false figure on Twitter, and did so while smiling as hard as humanly possible. "And at some point somebody probably conveyed it to him adding a zero to that and they shouldn't have done that".

"I'm not the chairman of the council of Twitter advisers", he said.

But as he answered a question from a reporter about Trump's tweet, he also bashfully recalled an earlier incident when he gave Sanders a "bad number".
