Apple is also expected to release an iPhone version made of cheaper materials, including a 6.1-inch LCD screen for customers keen on a more affordable device.

It is expected to be a grander form of the iPhone X with a 6.5-inch screen, around an inch bigger than the screen of the iPhone 8 Plus.

That means they're also all likely to boast Apple's hi-tech Face ID feature, which uses facial recognition to identify you - allowing your phone to be unlocked.

Apple's market capitalization has passed $1 trillion and the company needs to sustain revenue growth from its signature product even as global demand for smart phones plateau.

Apple has remained mum about revelations planned for the event at its spaceship campus in Silicon Valley, but the timing fits its pattern of annually introducing iPhone updates.

A faster processor, better battery life and faster charging are also expected along with one suggestion that this gadget will be refilled via USB-C and not Apple's standard Lightning cable.

Additionally a new AirPower wireless charger is expected to be announced to supplement the new devices.

While iPhone sales have slowed, Apple profits have risen along with the average purchase price of its handsets.

We're expecting more of an iterative update than a revolutionary design change. Analysts expect the company will take cues from the iPhone X and ditch the iPad's home button.
