Arun Jaitley slams at Mallya for false claim

Arun Jaitley slams at Mallya for false claim

For sake of clarity, this is what Mallya said.

Mallya said he met Jaitley "often enough in the Parliament, in the House, in the Central Hall".

Earlier in the day, Jaitley, speaking to news agency ANI, said: "I have never given him an appointment".

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), arguing on behalf of the Indian government, countered this with arguments that Mallya had intended "from the outset" never to repay the loans he sought for his struggling airline and misrepresented its profitability.

The Indian government's Enforcement Directorate, which fights financial crimes, is seeking to declare Mallya a "fugitive economic offender" and to confiscate 125 billion rupees worth of his assets. "He (Jaitley) had not informed ED, CBI".

"Since he was a Member of Rajya Sabha and he occasionally attended the House, he misused that privilege on one occasion, having been fully briefed about his earlier "bluff offers", I curtly told him "there was no point talking to me and he must make offers to his bankers", Jaitley said".

Hours later, though, Mallya clarified his statement, saying he had not met the finance minister "formally" but had merely run into him in Parliament. The Modi government and, particularly Jaitley, must answer to why they didn't act despite knowing that a high profile defaulter and alleged fraudster is about to leave the jurisdiction of Indian laws. There is a notice to restrain Mr Mallya.

He also asked why a look-out circular saying Mallya should be detained was downgraded.

On 25 February, 2016 Mallya resigns from the USL board as its chairman securing a fat $75 million (Rs 500 crore) severance pay from Diageo as part of a non-compete agreement.

The lawyer further said, "There is no evidence that Mallya or Kingfisher applied for bank loans with bad intent".

Hurricane Florence: Storm force winds for North Carolina within hours
The first tropical storm-force winds of at least 39 miles per hour (63 kph) were forecast to hit the coast on Thursday. Most other beachgoers were long gone. "If they're telling you to leave, you have to leave", Graham said.

As it turns into southern SC . "It is an extremely, dangerous, life-threatening, historic hurricane", said North Carolina Gov. South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster on Monday ordered the mandatory evacuation of one million coastal residents.

"Either your passport is impounded or there is an order of a court".

In a tweet, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal questioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Nirav Modi before he left the country and the finance minister met Mallya, so what happened in those meeting?

He said there were CCTV cameras, and "we can all see that for proof".

At a press conference minutes later, Rahul Gandhi said one of its leaders had witnessed Arun Jaitley and Vijay Mallya having a discussion in parliament just two days before the fugitive tycoon's flight to the UK.

The liquor baron is facing money laundering charges in multi-crore fraud case in India, which wants him extradited from the United Kingdom where he fled to in March 2016. The photograph, taken at a time the PNB fraud case was in the know of the authorities, had been shared on Twitter by the government.

Swamy in his tweet, back then, had asked that how could Mallya escape the country despite a Look Out Notice (LON) against him.

He did not do either of these and chose to recall the event only after Mallya's revelation appeared to have left him embarrassed.

Perhaps, the liquor king would have been made to pay back banks failing which he would have been already behind the bars.

Jaitley probably owes another clarification on why he gave a major miss to Mallya's clue on the great escape to United Kingdom, the dream safe haven for a number of fraudsters.
