Windows 10 warns users not to install Chrome and Firefox

The warnings appear on Windows 10 and remind people they already have Microsoft's Edge browser installed. It provides the users with two options - "Open Microsoft Edge" and "Install anyway". It was quietly added by Microsoft and will trigger a pop-up "ad" message when trying to install Chrome, Firefox, or other third party browsers on Windows 10. You can click "Install anyway" if you want to install the program you downloaded, which you probably do. Time will tell, but even if this pop-up never makes it to a live version of Windows 10, it's clear that Microsoft is looking for new ways to scare people away from Edge's competition. That kind of passive-aggressive styling has become all too common in pop-ups that want you to sign up for newsletters, download specific apps or do whatever else the person who set up the pop-up wants you to do.

Instead of disabling the app recommendations by default, Microsoft seems to be enabling them by default. Chrome and Mozilla's Firefox are two of the most popular browsers, and that has made it hard for Microsoft to convince users to opt for its Edge browser. It's particularly bold for Microsoft to surface this pop-up as soon as you try to launch the installer for another browser as well, and we can't really see its existence sitting well with the larger Windows 10 userbase. In a statement to CNET, Microsoft referred to its Windows test programme, and said, "We're now testing this functionality with insiders only". A user who initiates the installation of a browser does so on goal.

For Maria, there was a large gap between when the first loan was approved and when loans started ramping up. Well, I'm sorry, sir, shame on you. "But I don't pay attention to him".

The tech giant also tried a similar push to force Windows 10 Mail users to use Edge for all email links, but the company reversed the change after a backlash, the report noted.

Microsoft has released Edge for Android and the browser has been well received by Android users. If someone is downloading Chrome or Firefox, they've already made their choice as to what browser they want to use. To do that requires focusing on making Edge better than the alternatives and marketing it as such.
