The biggest announcements from Apple's iPhone Xs event

The biggest announcements from Apple's iPhone Xs event

It may be the least sensational of Apple's three new iPhones for 2018 when you scrutinize the specs, but the iPhone XR (pronounced "ten-R") is absolutely the most interesting - and that has nothing to do with its comparatively cheaper price. But if you happen to be one of those people who missed it, the official videos on Apple's YouTube channel can help you catch up quickly. Dubbed the iPhone XR, the new model sits in between the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in size, and features a 6.1-inch advanced LCD screen that the company is calling its "Liquid Retina" display.

The latest version of the Apple Watch will add features that allow it to take high-quality heart readings and detect falls.

Here are two more Apple Watch ads.

One more thing. Although largely unrelated, the keynote opening clio was pretty darn good so it deserves an honorable mention as well.

The first phone to introduce the dongle was the iPhone 7, in which the 3.5mm headphone jack was ditched in favor of the proprietary Lightning cable.

The iPhone XR has a larger screen than the iPhone XS and the same A12 Bionic processor as the iPhone XS Max (which costs hundreds more). Our colleague Gareth Beavis over at T3's sister site TechRadar has had some serious hands-on time with the iPhone XR and these are his thoughts.

The iPhone Xr goes for $749, the iPhone Xs starts at $999 and the iPhone Xs Max begins at a whopping $1,099. People storing albums upon albums of home movies will prefer the 512GB option that the iPhone XS and XS Max offer.

We got to test the phone out in person, and reckon the display (which lands right in the middle, size-wise, of the iPhone Xs and Xs Max) might not reach the dizzying heights of OLED, but it remains a lovely smartphone display in its own right.

They come in gold, silver, and space gray. Both boast a dual-lens 12-megapixel camera. With the iPhone XR, which comes in yellow, coral, blue and red as well as black and white, the color is already baked into the phone (but you'll probably want a clear case for your glass-backed phone anyway).
