A year later, Golovkin, Alvarez meet with bad intentions

Their eagerly-anticipated showdown will be held at the same venue as their controversial split draw was last September, the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. "I defeated the weigh-in, and now it's time to defeat him [Saturday] night".

A year ago, this was the biggest fight in the world.

Barring any "backroom politics", the rematch set for this Saturday (September 16th) is being billed as more than a unification fight for all the Middleweight straps, but as the deciding vote in choosing the number one spot on the Pound for Pound list, regardless of division.

For the opening HBO PPV bout, former four-division world champion and former pound-for-pound king Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (46-2, 38 KOs), 31, of Nicaragua, who is returning from a one-year layoff and back-to-back losses, was 114.8 pounds for his 10-round junior bantamweight bout against former strawweight world titlist Moises Fuentes (25-5-1, 14 KOs), 30, of Mexico, who was 116 pounds. All three judges agreed Alvarez won the first two rounds and the last three.

"These stories about contaminated meat are nonsense", Golovkin said, claiming to have seen injection marks on Alvarez's body in photos of his opponent.

Alvarez must prove his career has been authentic. All of those variables were caused by continuing to be on the ropes and the constant pressure applied by Golovkin.

Oddsmakers are expecting the fight to go the distance again. "It's kind of disappointing, because I think this is probably going to be the best fight boxing is going to put on this year".

Alvarez looks leaner heading into the grudge match.

Whether that translates into a more entertaining fight remains to be seen.

But in March, Canelo sent shockwaves through the sporting world by confirming he had tested positive for clenbuterol - a banned substance believed to help to strip fat and build lean muscle - in two separate tests administered in February. The unified middleweight champion's team has also gone as far to say that Alvarez "ran" a lot in the first outing and didn't fight "Mexican Style". The two fighters didn't engage in the traditional faceoff after Wednesday's press conference at the MGM Grand.

That means they won't have a staredown until the final instructions before the first bell rings. This is very personal for Alvarez, but he feels the anger drives him and will use it to his advantage on Saturday.

"I have motivation", he said. "I'm angry, but I'm going to use it in my favor for this fight".

"And if he fights him, he's going to get knocked out".
