Chris Waddle sets challenge for Jurgen Klopp after Tottenham win

Liverpool survived a late scare to defeat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Wembley Stadium.

Winks has to take some blame for Georginio Wijnaldum's header opening the scoring for Liverpool in the first half, as he had not stayed with his man when Michel Vorm badly dealt with a Liverpool corner.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hit back at Gary Neville by commenting that he does not know what the former Manchester United skipper meant when he suggested that the Reds should sacrifice their Champions League aspirations to win the league title.

"Tottenham won't be happy but because we were so good, it was hard for them". We had 85 brilliant minutes, although unfortunately we didn't finish the game off.

Liverpool and Chelsea have made Premier League history by each winning their first five matches of the new season. "We all knew it after the World Cup, especially after England came that far, they have had no rest", added Klopp.

But despite the win, the victory was soured by what was a horrific injury suffered by Firmino. "We have to think about the game tomorrow, then we see who we can choose for the next game".

"It was a free kick for Tottenham, right?"

The only cloud hanging over an otherwise successful afternoon in London was an eye injury sustained by Firmino during a 75th-minute clash with Jan Vertonghen that saw Spurs awarded a free-kick.

"But it's something with the eye and for sure at the moment it's not comfortable for him".

'A hospital examination confirmed an abrasion of the eye, but there will be no lasting damage, ' a statement read.

Meanwhile, the German boss will be praying Salah and Mane are firing on all cylinders when they begin their Champions League venture versus Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

"Firmino travelled back to Merseyside separately from his teammates with club doctor Andy Massey following the positive assessment".
