Cleveland Browns announce plans to release WR Josh Gordon on Monday

Despite Gordon's breathtaking amount of red flags and off-field issues, there should be plenty of receiver-needy teams eager take him up on his postscript offer.

Multiple violations of the NFL's policy on substances of abuse sidelined Gordon for most of his pro career since the Browns drafted him in the second round in 2012.

The Browns announced on Saturday that they will part ways with receiver Josh Gordon following the team's Week 2 game against the Saints.

General manager John Dorsey issued the following statement in regards to the move.

Few players were more thrilling than Josh Gordon when he was actually on the field for the Cleveland Browns.

Hurricane Florence kills at least three people
A storm surge of more than nine feet is expected to be caused from the hurricane, covering cars, street signs and homes. Friday, the hurricane was about 5 miles (55 km) east of Wilmington and was crawling at 6 mph (9 kmh).

Mother, infant are first two confirmed deaths from Hurricane Florence
Parts of the Carolinas could see 50 cm to 76 cm, with isolated areas getting 101 cm, over seven days along the coast. It's about the water, not the wind, with Hurricane Florence making an extended stay along the North Carolina coast.

Tropical Storm Isaac reforms, remains unpredictable
In addition to wind impacts, there's going to be a unsafe storm surge ("wall of water" that arrives) and then persistent rainfall. Roy Cooper called Florence an "uninvited brute" that could wipe out entire communities as it grinds across the state.

The team had stuck with Gordon, 27, through all his personal troubles over a period of six years but will part ways with him on Monday officially.

We don't know the official word yet, but the Browns clearly reached the end of their rope with Gordon, who is one of the most talented receivers in the National Football League but has struggled with his sobriety and been a thorn in the Browns' side after the team went above and beyond to help him recover.

The league's leading receiver in 2013, Gordon caught one pass for a 17-yard touchdown in last week's tie against the Pittsburgh Steelers. In 2014, Gordon was suspended for the whole year, but it was later reduced to 10 games.

Browns head coach Hue Jackson had said in mid August that he never lost trust in Gordon. He went on to play five games that season, recording 18 catches for 335 yards. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Browns are "far more likely" to trade Gordon rather than release him. With Gordon gone, the team will rely heavily on Rashard Higgins and Antonio Callaway to work alongside Jarvis Landry and tight end David Njoku.
