Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez II

Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez II

Gennady Golovkin couldn't hide his heartbreak or disgust after ending up on the losing side of a razor thin majority decision opposite Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. However, this time the judges decided on a clear victor as "Canelo" defeated "GGG" by majority decision to take the WBC, WBA, and IBO middleweight titles.

Mexican star Alvarez produced a performance of guts and resilience to inflict the first defeat of Golovkin's career with a majority decision at the T-Mobile Arena.

With how close the first two fights were, and the amount of money that could be made from running it back a third time, it seems likely this fight will be made. Ringside judges Dave Moretti and Steve Weisfeld scored it 115-113 to Álvarez, while Glenn Feldman had it 114-114.

The two fighters switched roles from their first fight, with Triple G trying to counter Alvarez and the Mexican fighter coming forward much of the fight.

Pay-per-view coverage of Canelo-Golovkin 2 will begin at 8:00 p.m. ET on HBO pay-per-view.

"I am a great fighter, and I showed it tonight", Alvarez said.

Golovkin, the big puncher from Kazakhstan, has gone the distance twice in his last three fights, including the draw with Alvarez. A draw like many boxing writers had it.

"I'm bothered by all the stupid things they've been saying", Alvarez said earlier in the week. "Need one more between these great fighters". We won this fight.

Once again, Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin's matchup was left up to the decision of the judges. He's a great fighter but in the end I got the victory.

(When asked about a third fight) Under the right conditions, yes. It's obvious that these two guys can make great fights.

And asked on whether or not there will be a rematch, he said: "If the people want another fight then we'll do it again".
