Syrian air defenses shoot down several Israeli missiles - SANA

The last reported Israeli strikes on Syria took place on September 4, when Syrian state media said the military's air defenses downed several missiles in the coastal province of Tartus and in central Hama.

"Our air defense units responded to an Israeli missile attack against the Damascus International Airport", the agency quoted a Syrian military source as saying.

The news agency posted a video of a small explosion in the night sky on a backdrop of city lights, but provided no further details of the attack.

Earlier this month, Israel's Defense Forces said it carried out more than 200 airstrikes in Syria over the past year, many of which Israel claimed were targeting Iranian positions and weapons convoys.

Syrian troops now control around two-thirds of the country after scoring a series of military victories in recent months, including around Damascus and in the country's south. A statement by the Syrian Arab Army posted to Facebook stated, "We have reports of a large flaming mass being seen after it was shot down, but we can not yet confirm whether a jet was shot down or not".
