Trump disputes Puerto Rico storm death toll, draws outcry

The current argument over precisely how many people died in Puerto Rico when Hurricane Maria came barreling through has gotten ugly.

This new study of Maria, as indicated above, was looking at the number of people who probably would have died on average in each month following the storm going out to February fo the following year.

In the tweet, Trump quoted Rivera saying, "They say all these people died in the storm in Puerto Rico, yet 70 per cent of the power was out before the storm".

She called Trump's tweet about the death toll shameful, noting that whether the deaths were caused by medical equipment like dialysis machines not working, extreme heat or the spike in suicide rates, they're all directly attributable to the administration's response to the hurricanes. On Thursday he claimed that the death toll in Puerto Rico was a Democratic ploy to "make me look as bad as possible". "If a person died for any reason, like old age, just add them onto the list".

But Donald Trump has continued to insist that the response to Hurricane Maria and the estimated death toll of 3,000 people in Puerto Rico was not his fault, the Washington Post noted.

Almost 3,000 deaths have been attributed to Hurricane Maria, making it the second-deadliest storm in the US.

Earlier this week, President Trump was bashed by Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello and San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin after the president said the federal government did a "fantastic job in Puerto Rico".

"Although you don't believe it... nearly a million boxes of water that were never delivered to the villages", posted Abdiel Santana, a photographer working for a Puerto Rican state police agency who took the pictures.

Nearly a year after Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, there is a lot of pressure on FEMA to respond effectively to Florence.

"We've been battling through it", Cora said, via NBC Sports Boston.

Russian, Chinese militaries put their power on display in dramatic drills
Putin said the war games demonstrate the Russian army is capable of countering military threats, without naming the aggressors. As well as the troops, some 1,000 Russian aircraft and 36,000 tanks and other combat vehicles are involved.

Tropical Storm Isaac reforms, remains unpredictable
In addition to wind impacts, there's going to be a unsafe storm surge ("wall of water" that arrives) and then persistent rainfall. Roy Cooper called Florence an "uninvited brute" that could wipe out entire communities as it grinds across the state.

Apple's iPhone XS and XS Max are now available for pre-order
The iPhone Xs and Xs Max will be available in Australia from next Friday September 21st, but you can pre-order them right now. The iPhone XS Max (iPhone 11,6) does even better in Geekbench tests, and it's probably thanks to that extra gigabyte of RAM.

"I thought you all wanted to talk about the Kavanaugh nomination", he said.

"They hired ... GWU Research to tell them how many people had died in Puerto Rico (how would they not know this?)".

Santos-Vasquez said the president's numbers are wrong.

Puerto Rico's government is run by the New Progressive party, a pro-statehood, Puerto Rico-only party.

The attitude from the Trump administration toward the territories still reeling from Hurricanes Irma and Maria is unacceptable, she said. "A true leader would offer his condolences to the people of Puerto Rico, a true leader would offer his condolences to United States citizens and vow to never let something like that happen again".

'You know, 3,000, 6, 18, I don't know.

"The potential for government failure and the resulting humanitarian crisis on Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands is high", reads the unclassified J-2 assessment obtained by the House Oversight Committee.

George Washington University said in a statement that it stands by its study.

Hurricane Maria killed 2,975 people in Puerto Rico, a long-awaited independent investigation by George Washington University into the 2017 storm concluded last month.
