Noted Malayalam actor Captain Raju passed away in Kochi on Monday.

He was at KIMS Hopsital in Oman for treatment as he suffered cardiac arrest during a plane journey in June. The death came at his residence near Palarivattom. Following his family's request, the actor was then shifted from Muscat to Kochi for further treatment. His last film was Masterpiece in which he made a cameo appearance as Captain Raju himself.

He entered Malayalam cinema through the movie "Raktham".

A versatile performer, Captain Raju who hailed from Omalur in Pattanamthitta district has acted in serious roles as well as comic ones. Through the hilarious portrayal of "Pavanayi" in Mohanlal-starrer Nadodikkaattu, Raju proved his acting mettle and it remained a landmark in his career.

Some of his notable performances in Malayalam are in Nadodikkaattu, Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha, Aavanaazhi and CID Moosa. He had acted in more than 500 films in the languages of Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and English. He turned a director with the Malayalam movie Itha Oru Sneha Gadha, which featured Vikram in the lead role.
