Lawyer: Ford can testify next week if terms fair

President Donald Trump this morning took to Twitter to blame "radical left wing politicians" for Christine Blasey Ford's sexual assault accusation against his Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh.

The facade of restraint is broken: President Donald Trump is on the attack against the forces threatening Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court confirmation. The Senate Judiciary Committee has yet to see it. "It will be a circus atmosphere, no matter what".

"As you are aware, she has been receiving death threats, which have been reported to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and she and her family have been forced out of their home", it said. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who'd scheduled her to testify Monday.

Thirty-some-odd years ago, when this supposed drunken sexual assault by Kavanaugh allegedly occurred, was the time for Ford to claim victimhood. Then when Republicans said they'd love to hear from her, and would she please show up and testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Democrats suggested that such a request was sexist and cruel - that no hearing could be held without an FBI investigation.

"She wishes to testify, provided that we can agree on terms that are fair and which ensure her safety", Deborah Katz, Ford's lawyer says in an email to committee aides first reported in the New York Times and confirmed by NPR. Senate seven-day notice rules means her appearance would come late next week at the earliest.

Negotiations have been ongoing on whether Ford will testify next week before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Before Katz emailed, lawmakers - including key moderate Republicans such as Sens. Those who spoke to the Times about Ford in her adult life described her as "a friendly but kind of geeky scientist", "very meticulous with data", and "someone taken very seriously". And that is bad news for Kavanaugh's chances at confirmation.

Kavanaugh can not be considered for SCOTUS until accuser is taken seriously
If Ford doesn't show on Monday, she will lose any credibility she might have and the committee and full Senate should follow Sen. Democratic Senator Doug Jones said Mark Judge , Kavanaugh's high school friend, should be subpoenaed if he refuses to testify.

As the week has proceeded, Republicans have seemed to regain momentum toward approving Kavanaugh though his prospects have remained uncertain.

US Capitol Police said 56 protesters were arrested in Senate office buildings during demonstrations against Kavanaugh on Thursday.

The email said Ford's "strong preference" remains that the committee allow a thorough investigation of her claim before she appears. Although they are employing a more gentle touch, Republican members of the Committee are doing to Dr Ford what they did to Anita Hill, 27 years ago, when they refused to allow three independent witnesses to testify in support of Hill's version of events. Ford initially sent the top Democrat on the panel, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (FYN'-styn), the ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The president has commented on the Kavanaugh allegation throughout the week, praising his Supreme Court pick's integrity and intellect, while declining to attack Ford.

But, with Kavanaugh denying the accusation and Blasey Ford so far unable to produce witnesses on her own behalf, Grassley and the White House have pressed for her to testify soon in hopes they can get past the controversy and quickly get Kavanaugh approved.

One of the four has yet to be publicly identified. They also mentioned having only one camera in the room, and said Ford is opposed to being questioned by outside counsel.

Supporters of Kavanaugh have also rallied behind him, while people backing Ford protested in Congress on Thursday.
