Rima Das Village Rockstars is Indias Official Entry to Oscars 2019

The announcement was made by SV Rajendra Singh Babu, the Kannada filmmaker appointed by the Film Federation of India to head this year's Oscar entry selection committee, reports PTI.

Now, it has been announced that Rima Das' Indian Assamese film Village Rockstars will be India's official entry at the Oscars next year. Films like Raazi, October, Love Sonia, Padmaavat and many more were submitted as nominations.

After winning the Best Feature film Award at the 65th National Film Awards, Rima Das's directorial "Village Rockstars" is set for release across India on September 28. However, Village Rockstars has emerged as the clear victor. "Very proud and to select this film and send it to the Oscars", jury member Anant Mahadevan was quoted by The Indian Express as saying.

Set in Das' own village Chhaygaon in Assam, Village Rockstars is the story of "poor but awesome children" who live a fun-filled life.

In the film, Dhunu's family that consists of her widowed mother Basanti and her elder brother Manabendra, represents the life of the villagers. The plot revolves around Dhunu, a girl who grows up in poverty and learns to fend for herself.

Director Amit V Masurkar's Newton was declared India's official entry to the 2018 Oscars. However, the movie couldn't make it to the list of the final nine films.

The 91st Academy Awards will take place on February 24, 2019.

On the next steps and the need to get her film seen and noticed by the Academy members, Das said: "I have heard that we need a good promotion campaign".
