Chill in the air as Pompeo meets Chinese counterparts in Beijing

Trump, tweeting from Washington shortly after Pompeo left North Korea on Sunday, cited progress Pompeo had made on agreements he and Kim committed to at their June meeting in Singapore and said, "I look forward to seeing Chairman Kim again, in the near future".

Kim voiced his optimism as he said goodbye to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who made a one-day trip to Pyongyang on Sunday to keep denuclearization talks going and also to discuss a second summit between Kim and Trump following their first historic talks in June, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

Ms Nauert said Mr Pompeo "held productive discussions" with Kim.

"There's a lot of logistics that will be required to execute that", he said at a press conference in South Korea' Seoul.

Pompeo and Wang openly disagreed over which side had called off a bilateral security dialogue that had been due to take place in Beijing this month.

"We believe this has been a direct attack on our mutual trust, and has cast a shadow on China-U.S. relations", he added.

On Sunday, Pompeo met Kim during a trip to Pyongyang, his fourth visit to the country this year.

"Yeah, so we had a great, great visit this morning", Pompeo replied.

Kim is ready to invite global experts to inspect the Punggye-ri nuclear test site, which Pyongyang invited worldwide journalists to witness being demolished in May, according to Pompeo.

Trump administration asks Google to shun China Search project
The vice president's charge of election interference was part of a broader indictment of China's growing power and assertiveness. Google should stop work on a search engine created to comply with Chinese censorship rules, said Vice President Mike Pence .

"North Korea took some steps towards denuclearisation and the United States will face criticism from the worldwide community if it continues to demand complete denuclearisation without any lifting of sanctions", said Yang Moo-jin, a professor at the University of North Korean Studies in Seoul.

Neither Pompeo nor North Korea offered details.

Xi has not visited North Korea since coming to power in 2013 although he sent Li Zhanshu, Beijing's third-ranking Communist Party official, to Pyongyang last month for North Korea's 70th anniversary celebrations.

The South Koreans said the US and North Korea discussed establishing formal negotiating groups to set a "denuclearization process" and work out a time and location for a follow-up meeting to the first Trump-Kim summit in June.

The Secretary of State added that South Korea has been an integral part of negotiations aimed at denuclearising North Korea, and he passed along Mr Trump's gratitude for the country's efforts.

"I've never been involved in an worldwide discussion where there weren't differences of view, not only between governments but inside of governments", he said. "That's a very important issue, and they recognize that, and accept that, and realize that".

The other is the Punggye-ri nuclear site that Pyongyang said was destroyed in May, though it only invited journalists to witness its destruction.

The North has accused Washington of making "unilateral and gangster-like" demands on denuclearization and has insisted that sanctions should be lifted before any progress in nuclear talks. "We demand that the USA side stop this kind of mistaken action".

Moon said a second Mr. Trump-Kim summit could be accompanied by major diplomatic developments that could contribute to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and stabilizing peace.
