Donald Trump: Sex assault claims against Brett Kavanaugh 'a hoax'

While Trump apologized on behalf of the nation for "the awful pain and suffering" Kavanaugh and his family had suffered and declared him "proven innocent", the new justice assured Americans that he would be fair and was taking the job with "no bitterness".

Justice Brett Kavanaugh received a warm welcome from his new colleagues Tuesday as he made a low-key public debut at the Supreme Court, in a collegial scene that stood in sharp contrast to the chaos of his confirmation process.

"On behalf of our nation, I want to apologize to Brett and the entire Kavanaugh family for the bad pain and suffering you have been forced to endure", Trump said, sticking a shiv in Democrats and Christine Blasey Ford.

"What happened to the Kavanaugh family violates every notion of fairness, decency and due process", the President continued.

Kavanaugh's first question was technical in nature.

Kavanaugh, 53, began work immediately after his official swearing-in on Saturday evening even as protesters stormed the front steps of the Supreme Court and pounded on the 13-ton bronze doors, furious that he had been confirmed despite a decades-old allegation of sexual assault brought by Christine Blasey Ford. Joe Biden in 1992, where he argued that if a Supreme Court seat became vacant, then President George H.W. Bush should not nominate someone until after that year's election.

"What was done last night in the White House was a political rally".

World Mental Health Day, 10 October
I went on to develop an eating disorder in my teens, something that I now understand was a - awful - coping mechanism for anxiety. Just like "regular" first aiders they are not a substitute for medical professionals, but they do have the power to save lives.

Robertson: Title race not just between Liverpool and City
We were close, more than ever to winning here but it is better than last season and we compete really really good. I liked it, but if you want to win against City, you have to use a few of these half-chances.

"On the Supreme Court, I will seek to be a force for civility and unity", Kavanaugh said.

As Gorsuch did in his first arguments previous year, Kavanaugh focused heavily on the importance of following earlier decisions of the court.

Part of the duties of the junior justice include taking notes at the weekly closed-door conferences, where current appeals are voted on and pending cases are added to the docket.

The other eight justices were all in attendance for Monday's swearing-in by retired justice Anthony Kennedy at an entirely ceremonial event. "I think, given our divides, it will pretty much fall predictably between those who are for and those who are against", Clinton said. "But the Senate having failed to do its proper, constitutionally mandated job of advise and consent, we are going to have to do something to provide a check and balance, to protect the rule of law and to protect the legitimacy of one of our most important institutions". The president also falsely asserted that Kavanaugh was "proven innocent". Court watchers will be looking to see whether the new justice asks questions at arguments and, if so, what he asks. Kavanaugh replaced Kennedy on the bench. "I take this office with gratitude and no bitterness", he said.

Tuesday's cases involved the 1984 Armed Career Criminal Act, a "three-strikes-and-you're-out" criminal sentencing law that boosts prison sentences for people who are convicted of crimes involving guns if they previously have been convicted of certain other crimes. He helped to vet Roberts and Alito when Kavanaugh was working as a lawyer in the White House.

Justice Kavanaugh can be expected to cast crucial votes on those issues as well as gun control, immigration, voting rights and others.

He has already hired four law clerks - all female, a first in the court's history.
