Gunn is expected to take an entirely new approach, and potentially direct the new Suicide Squad instalment.

The former WWE star has been one of Gunn's most vocal supporters since the director was sacked by Disney for a slew of old, offensive tweets, even expressing his desire to part ways with the franchise if Gunn wasn't reinstated.

Io9 adds that Gunn will have "a completely new take on the property", so it's possible we could be looking at a new cast or a soft reboot of sorts that better situates Suicide Squad inside WB's new vision for the DCEU (less connectivity, stronger individual stories). When he tweeted his willingness to join Suicide Squad 2, fans immediately gave suggestions of who he could play including an iteration of Bane (originally played by Tom Hardy in The Dark Knight Rises) as well as Solomon Grundy, a zombified supervillain/anti-hero in the DC comics.
