Rock and Roll Hall of Fame unveils shortlist for class of 2019

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced the nominations for their 2019 class, with Def Leppard and Stevie Nicks leading the list of hopeful inductees alongside Janet Jackson, Rage Against the Machine and Radiohead.

If LL Cool J is voted into the Hall, he will join fellow rap legends Run-D.M.C., Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, N.W.A., and Tupac Shakur. Voting begins today (October 9) and runs through December 9. This is Smith's fifth time being nominated.

Among the acts receiving their first nomination this year were Devo, an avant garde group from Akron, Ohio, best known for its 1980 party favorite "Whip It", as well as British group Roxy Music, and the American multi-instrumentalist Todd Rundgren. For some, the pinnacle of the list contains musings such as one day winning a Grammy award.

Fans can also participate by going to and can cast votes for the artist they believe to be most deserving.

Despite its name, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been accepting nominees from all genres, regardless of their connection to rock'n'roll.
