Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 Trailer Gives First Look at Spock

The season is the first under new showrunner Alex Kurtzman (Sleepy Hollow, Star Trek: Into Darkness).

Fans also saw new casting addition Rebecca Romijn as Number One and returning star Michelle Yeoh, who plays Philippa Georgiou aka Section 31's new recruit.

The trailer opens with USS Discovery's new captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) delivering a motivational speech, followed by Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) talking about seven signals that "appeared across the galaxy", with Pike telling her that they have to find out "the source and intent of those signals". "I can not tell you anything more than that".

The season will deal with a vision both Michael (Martin-Green) and Spock (Peck) have of some kind of "red angel" and how it ties into a series of mysterious signals that Starfleet has picked up in space.

What do you want to see when it comes to Star Trek: Discovery season 2, and does the trailer get you even more excited? "There's a conversation of science vs. faith and what does faith mean?" said Kurtzman.

South Africa's anti-graft body to investigate finance minister
The President appointed a respected former governor of South Africa's central bank, Tito Mboweni , as the new finance minister. Although Nene has since apologised for lying about meeting the Guptas, he made a decision to step down from his role.

Hubble in safe mode after gyro failure
The newly failed gyro is the last of that old design, and it lasted about six months longer than expected. Its successor, the 6.5-metre James Webb Space Telescope , will not launch until 2021 at the earliest.

SpaceX rocket launch causes social media stir in Southern California
This facility, which SpaceX leases from the Air Force, used to feature two launch pads, known as SLC-4 East and SLC-4 West. Social media went into a frenzy in Southern California Sunday night after odd lights appeared to cross the evening sky.

"As a child, I had the same vision again and again", Spock - seen here with an uncharacteristic beard - says later in the video.

Spock made his first appearance in a trailer for the new season, set to premiere January 17, 2019.

While fans have yet to properly see Peck's performance as a younger version of the iconic character (though we do catch a glimpse in the new trailer), his co-stars are already singing his praises. Viewers will also visit Saru's home planet, Caminar, for the first time and meet his sister. Let us know down below in the comments.

Latif's character Ash Tyler has been conspicuously absent from all the season 2 promotional material, but at the panel, he explained that Tyler and L'Rell (Mary Chieffo) will be trying to maintain peace with the Klingons after the events of the first season. I really loved that because one of the things we are doing in our iteration, on Star Trek: Discovery, is being our own thing, but also keeping that connection with us in the canon and having that connective tissue.
