[.] Once we have confirmation that there is no further impact we will move towards an official re-release of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update.

Microsoft has paused the rollout of its latest Windows 10 update after users reported that photos and other personal files had been wiped without warning by the latest version of the operating system.

"Prior to re-releasing the October 2018 Update our engineering investigation determined that a very small number of users lost files during the October 2018 Update", stated the Microsoft announcement.

Kim Jong-Un invites Pope Francis to visit North Korea
Wang said the North Korean issue shows that Beijing and Washington "can and should increase communication and cooperation". Since Trump and Kim met, US-North Korea relations have stalled.

As Microsoft's John Cable explains in a post on Microsoft's Windows Blog, the problem was with the "Known Folder Redirection" feature. If, for example, you moved the Documents folder from its location in the user profile to a new location, such as a secondary data drive, but some files remained in the old location, the setup logic for the version 1809 upgrade removed the folder in the old location as well as all of the files in it. According to a new post from Microsoft, the issue only affected "one one-hundredth of one percent of version 1809 installs", but it was still a large enough problem to cause the update to be pulled. "Based on feedback from users, we introduced code in the October 2018 Update to remove these empty, duplicate known folders".

Doing what they should have done a week ago, before RTM, Microsoft has released a new build of the Windows 10 October 2018 update to Windows 10 Insiders in the Slow Ring and Release Preview Ring.

Users who are affected by the issue are missing files and folders in their "Documents" folder. They should have only deleted the folders if they were actually empty! "We expect this will allow us to better monitor the most impactful issues even when feedback volume is low".
