Samsung Galaxy A9 is the world's first quad-cam smartphone

Samsung Galaxy A9 is the world's first quad-cam smartphone

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy A7 three weeks ago, with the phone becoming the first from the South Korean manufacturer to feature three cameras at the back.

The new Samsung Galaxy A9 was revealed in all its quad camera glory at the company's Samsung A Galaxy Event, held at the W Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, putting to rest speculation that had been growing ever since the tech giant teased its "4x fun" event last month. Below that, there's a depth-sensing 5-megapixel lens created to gather all the depth information needed to add an artificial bokeh blur to the background in Samsung's adjustable Live Focus feature.

Now an Evan Blass leak is trying to shed light on what those cameras will be able to do.

The third sensor is the main camera with 24-megapixel resolution and f/1.7 aperture. In addition to a 24MP primary camera and a 5MP depth sensor for Live Focus shots, the Galaxy A9 comes with a telephoto lens for 2x optical zoom capability and an ultra-wide lens for 120-degree photos.

But let's be honest, the Galaxy A9 is all about that quadruple camera. "It boasts a 3,800mAh battery, and has a 6.3" Full HD+, Super AMOLED display.

Under the hood is the octa-core Snapdragon 660 chipset - the Nokia 7 Plus and BlackBerry Key2 notably feature the same processor - and 6GB of RAM.

There's also a 24MP camera at the front.

Galaxy A9 arrives in three colours; Caviar Black, Lemonade Blue and Bubblegum Pink.

Other features include a fingerprint scanner on the back, face unlocking in front, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC for Samsung Pay (doesn't work with MST). Now, with Samsung bringing on quad cameras, it's all-out war in the arena of smartphone optics.

The Galaxy A9 will be available in the Philippines on December 1, with a suggested retail price of P32,990.
