Google officially unveils its first 'smart' display

That could be beneficial for some users, as it could mean the device is capable of streaming videos from the likes of Netflix and BBC iPlayer, something the third-party smart displays are incapable of.

The Google Home Hub is better for you if you have a limited amount of space, or if you're looking for something you can carry around.

Aside from slight software or feature differences between the Google Hub and now available smart displays, the real star is the single, cohesive interface Google is bringing to the smart home here.

Predictably, Samsung has taken aim at the notch at the top of the screen on the Google Pixel 3 XL. The Google Home Hub has acceptable audio, but it won't fill the room at full volume.

Among the devices Google announced at its big hardware event on Tuesday was the Google Home Hub, a Google Assistant device that resembles Amazon's Echo Show by adding a screen to create what is essentially a smart speaker on steroids. Now it has started rolling out a revamped Google Home app for both iOS and Android users. Bring them up using Google Photos. And with its built-in smart-home hub and camera for video calling and Skype, it's really shaping up to be an all-purpose device for smart-home owners. As its name suggests, the Google Home Hub is supposed to be at the center of the connected home with the ability to control smart home devices from more than a thousand brands.

And Amazon has just made the Echo Show officially available here in Australia, joining the Echo Spot, with its small circular screen. Home Hub also connects to smart home gadgets and provides a Home View Dashboard of the entire state of a smart home. C-Life bulbs have a single color setting, but you have total control over the brightness level. Or, you can ask "How much time have I spent on my phone today" to keep track of your time spent on the phone. Since rear-facing cameras are typically used to shoot subjects that are much further away, this is less of an issue.
