A marathon 19 hours in the air

A marathon 19 hours in the air

On Thursday, Singapore Airlines relaunched its non-stop flights between Singapore Changi Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport outside of New York City. The A340-500s that plied the route until 2013 had 58,870 gallons for only 100 customers.

The plane can accommodate 161 passengers, 67 in the business class and 94 in the premium economy one, plus the cabin crew.

The flight lasting 18 hours and 45 minutes was discontinued five years ago after oil rate of $100/barrel made it unviable.

The airline will take a page out of Qantas' book, and roll out menus and strategies to make the flight more comfy, with a focus on wellness.

Qantas meanwhile is in advanced discussions with Airbus and Boeing over an aircraft capable of making a 20-hour flight between London and Sydney.

Luckily, these flights aren't really aimed at the likes of me.

According to a press release from the airline, the first flight is scheduled for October 11.

Dodgers Beat Braves in Game 4 to Advance to NLCS
This is what the Dodgers had in mind when they acquired the free agent-to-be from the lowly Baltimore Orioles back in July. Game 3 of the NLDS between the Dodgers and Braves has a scheduled first pitch today at 8:07 pm EST / 5:07 pm PST.

Barkley has been in and out of the team under Maurizio Sarri but started on Sunday alongside Jorginho and N'Golo Kante. No Kevin De Bruyne in the matchday squad seems like Pep is going toe to toe with Klopp with a similar 4-3-3 formation.

Facebook’s WhatsApp says has fixed video call security bug
Luckily, WhatsApp took quick notice of the vulnerability and claims to have fixed the issue that aroused within their software. Silvanovich wrote in a bug report that heap corruption could occur when the WhatsApp app "receives a malformed RTP packet".

"Although you're in premium eco, you feel like you're in first class", said Alladin, adding that he had taken the same flight in 2008.

"The flight was great, smooth, enjoyable and ended too fast!" said Danny Ong, an engineer and flight enthusiast from Singapore, after landing in Newark.

United Airlines offers non-stop flights from Singapore to San Francisco, while other carriers like Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd 0293.HK and Taiwan's EVA Airways Corp 2618.TW compete with one-stop Singapore-U.S. offerings.

Singapore Airlines have placed orders for an additional seven of the planes, opening up more possibilities for future flight services.

Note that a few years ago Singapore Airlines has already done the direct flight from Singapore to NY, but in 2013 it was canceled due to low profitability.

"Even though it costs more for an airline to fly over a hub, they'll always charge you less because of the disadvantage of going via somewhere else". All business class tickets have sold out and only a limited number of premium economy are still available, a representative for the airline company tells the media outlet.

Compared to most global long haul flights, which can accommodate up to 544 people (based on an Airbus A380), the A350-900 will accommodate just 161 passengers, made up of 94 seats in premium economy and 67 business class.

The twin-engine plane uses a modified system that burns 25 per cent less fuel than other aircraft of a similar size, Airbus said.
