French authorities open investigation into €5mln PSG-Red Star ‎UCL 'match-fixing'

French authorities are investigating claims that a Red Star Belgrade official tried to fix the Serbian giants' 6-1 Champions League Group C loss away at Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month.

L'Equipe's report states that UEFA alerted PNF days before the two teams met at Parc des Princes on October 3.

It is claimed that a few days before the match, UEFA received reports that a senior figure within the Serbian club meant to place nearly €5million (£4.4m) on his own team losing by a five goal margin.

A Red Star official allegedly placed a bet of almost 5m euros (£4.3m) for the Serbian club to lose by five goals, reported French newspaper L'Equipe.

PSG said it was "extremely concerned" by the investigation.

"PSG remains at the disposal of the investigators and will not tolerate the slightest attack on its reputation nor that of its officials".

Red Star have now released a statement vehemently denying the accusations, and demanding an UEFA investigation into the matter in order to clear the club's name.

Monaco sack Leonardo Jardim Thierry Henry frontrunner as replacement
The 44-year-old Portuguese coach had to cope with the sale of numerous stars of his title-winning squad over the last two seasons. Henry is the bookies' favourite to replace Jardim after previously being linked with the Aston Villa job.

Red Star have dismissed the allegation absolutely.

With Neymar as the star of the show, PSG won the game easily.

"Today's technologies and other mechanisms are so improved that it is basically impossible to leave this case unsolved".

It was no more than a consolation effort, with Neymar completing the scoring, and his hat-trick, in the 81st minute to give PSG an easy victory.

BBC Sport has contacted Red Star Belgrade for comment.

In a statement, PSG expressed their "amazement and indignation".

When approached for comment regarding the match-fixing allegations, Uefa told The Independent: "Uefa never comments on potential, or the existence of, investigations into alleged match-fixing as to not compromise the process of such investigations".
