Calif. student: Girl brought cookies to school laced with grandmother's ashes

Students at the Da Vinci Charter Academy High School in California have alleged that the cookies were distributed on campus and contained the cremated remains of a fellow student's grandfather.

Police are looking into two high school students who might have been part of the plan to make and share the cookies.

Lt Doroshov also said that the relationship between the two girls is unclear, but they are not siblings and the dead man was the grandfather of only one of them.

"I have not heard of anyone getting sick, or anybody being harmed as far as physically or physiologically by this" said Lieutenant Paul Doroshov with the Davis Police.

A school in the United States on Tuesday (Oct 16) sought to reassure parents after reports that some of its students had handed around cookies allegedly baked with human ashes. Pot-laced cookies are one thing; human remains are a whole new, disturbing level.

He said that the cookie contained "tiny grey flecks" and that the girl had once offered him the ashes if he switched seats with another student in the classroom. "I was upset that I wasn't even notified", said the boy's mother. We always take all allegations of wrongdoing seriously and we conduct thorough investigations and involve the police or other entities when appropriate.

Warren's DNA test renews scrutiny of long history claiming Native-American heritage
The largest Native American advocacy group has said that is why it has condemned the President's usage in this manner. She continued, "I think of her as a smart woman and not getting into petty politics, and that's exactly what this is.

The way the school handled the situation indicates that the school is "more concerned about protecting themselves than protecting their students", the student's father said, Fox 40 News reported Monday.

The police officer told The Sacramento Bee that it was a "good question" whether the incident could be considered a crime, and that there was an obscure penal code section over the improper disposal of human remains.

Students are safe and there is no health risk at the Da Vinci Charter campus or to anyone involved ...

Doroshov said investigators believe roughly nine students consumed the cookies, which he says may have been sugar cookies.

The Davis Joint Unified School District issued a statement saying they can not comment on confidential student matters. "Those who were involved are remorseful and this is now a personal family matter".
