Kim Jong Un sincere about denuclearisation, should be rewarded: S Korea

The meeting between senior officials comes at a sensitive time as Washington has expressed unease over the fast pace in inter-Korean engagement, which it says should move in tandem with USA -led efforts to denuclearize the North.

Background: The agreement is the result of a high-level meeting in Panmunjom that was meant to iron out the details of agreements from the third inter-Korean summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae In.

North Korea, however, is "suffering great difficulty because of global sanctions and doesn't have the ability to shoulder the retaliation from the United States and worldwide community in the case it breaches denuclearization negotiations", Moon said.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un hold hands after watching the performance titled "the Glorious Country" at the May Day Stadium in Pyongyang, North Korea, September 19, 2018.

Military figures from both sides will be meeting "in the near future" to develop further steps for a military pact that was struck last month, and plans to develop a joint military commission and the gradual cleaning up of the DMZ of landmines and guardposts were also on the accord.

They will also separately discuss a planned joint bid to host the 2032 Olympics and a show by North Korean performers in Seoul, the statement said.

All South Korean nationals are required to seek approval from the ministry before contacting North Koreans or traveling to the North.

Piers Morgan shames Daniel Craig for wearing baby ‘papoose’
Many outraged Twitter users criticised Piers for bringing "masculinity" into the equation when discussing parenting methods. Morgan's point is that it's more manly to carry a baby in your arms than it is to wear one on your chest.

Kang's remarks amounted to a rare confirmation of discord between South Korea and the United States, though the allies have said they remain in lockstep on North Korea.

"We are ready to fulfill every mission given to us as a permanent member of the UN Security Council to realize complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of North Korea", he said.

In August, a joint inspection plan for the rail project was scrapped after the United Nations Command (UNC), which overlaps with USA forces in the South and oversees affairs in the DMZ, refused passage for a test train, military sources said. Kang was not specific, but her comments fueled speculation that Washington wasn't fully on board before Seoul signed the agreements. Moon is to encounter President Emmanuel Macron on Monday.

Moon also said Pyongyang and Washington were in working-level discussions to arrange a second summit as soon as the U.S. midterm elections are over.

Kim's grandfather, North Korea's founder Kim Il Sung, visited Mongolia when it was still a Soviet state in 1988.

The ministry says North Korea did not demand that Kim be excluded from covering the meeting. Kim is a reporter for the conservative Chosun Ilbo, South Korea's biggest newspaper, which has been largely critical of Moon's policies.
