The momentum seemed to carry over to the Wisconsin defense, as they stuffed MI on the next drive for three straight incomplete passes and a punt.

The Wolverines (6-1, 4-0 Big Ten) beat a ranked conference team for the first time since topping the Badgers two years ago. After Michigan allowed one first down, the Badgers would punt.

The Badgers (4-2, 2-1) tied the game at 7-7 with 11:26 until halftime on a 33-yard touchdown run by wideout Kendric Pryor on an end-around, but it was all MI after that.

"We certainly didn't do enough things throughout the course of the game to give ourselves a chance to beat them", Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst said. McSorley passed for a total of 757 yards and seven touchdowns in his last two games against the Spartans, and the spotlight will be on him again because Michigan State famously stuffs the run but can't stop the pass. McSorley's statistics don't jump off the page - 52.9-percent completion rate and 209 yards per game - but Pro Football Focus notes he has been hurt by a Big Ten-high 17 drops.

MI struck first with 13:33 left in the first half on a 2-yard touchdown run by Higdon, which was set up by an 81-yard run down to the Wisconsin 5-yard line by Patterson.

A costly mistake on a roughing the snapper penalty scrapped a strong Badger defensive stand to open the second half, giving MI a new set of downs, which they would make the most of.

Starting free safety Scott Nelson will miss the first half against the Wolverines after he was ejected for targeting in the third quarter of the win against Nebraska.

Michigan's backup quarterback, Dylan McCaffrey, ran for a 44-yard TD to make it 38-7 with 5:16 remaining.

Quinn Nordin kicked field goals of 42 and 33 yards in the second quarter to give MI a 13-7 lead at halftime. By the time the drought ended, the Badgers were down by 31 points and there was less than 5 minutes left to play. Nebraska has had double-figure penalties in all five of its games, and its penalty average of 97.4 yards ranks last in the nation.

MI and Wisconsin are set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. E.T.
