Jose Mourinho plays down touchline melee after 'awful' Chelsea draw

"Don't do what everyone does and say, 'It's Mourinho who does things.' They have apologised, everything is fine".

Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri backed Mourinho, saying he had already reprimanded his staff member for his role in the incident.

What happened? Substitute Ross Barkley was well placed to score Chelsea's equaliser in the 96th minute.

"I hope every referee does the same as Mike Dean and gives six minutes", he added.

The Premier League will resume October action with a clash of titans.

He told Sky Sports: "I am not annoyed with anything".

"I said "if you really feel that way and want to apologise I'll accept it, because I've made mistakes in my time too".

United started the match at Chelsea down in eighth in the Premier League, seven points behind their opponents.

Questioned after the game, the Portuguese said it was in the past.

"Sincerely I have not seen, but then I spoke to Jose, of course then I spoke to the staff member, because I think we were on the wrong side". I understood that we were in the wrong side of the situation. I spoke with my staff, and then [Ianni] agreed to speak to Mourinho and say sorry. I have to be very hard.

United were on the verge of securing their first win at Stamford Bridge since 2012 after mounting an impressive comeback in the second half, with Anthony Martial scoring twice after Antonio Rüdiger had given Chelsea an early lead.

In a subsequent news conference, Mourinho was asked what pleased him in United's performance and replied: "Everything".

"Not anymore at Manchester United and he hasn't done for 18 months".

Paul Pogba was at fault as Antonio Rudiger was given a free run to power a header past David de Gea and give Chelsea the ideal start.

In the first half, United were the team so many have criticised this season.

His second was an even sweeter finish that showed what United are capable of with Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford also playing their part in a flowing move.

The angry scenes at the final whistle will understandably claim much of the attention, with Mourinho reacting to some unnecessary gloating from Ianni.
