Saudi, Turkish prosecutors discuss Khashoggi killing

Turkey says it has secret recordings of the events, which Turkish officials recently played for CIA Director Gina Haspel.

The case has brought near unprecedented global scrutiny on Saudi Arabia, which is seeking to draw a line under the crisis after offering a series of differing narratives in the weeks following Mr Khashoggi's murder.

The Saudi officials who killed journalist Jamal Khashoggi in their Istanbul consulate must reveal the location of his body, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday in remarks that were sharply critical of the kingdom's handling of the case.

The journalist was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

Saudi Arabia's top prosecutor, Saud al-Mojeb, met with Istanbul's chief public prosecutor, Irfan Fidan, for an hour and 15 minutes at Istanbul's main courthouse, Turkey's state-run Anadolu news agency said.

Al-Mojeb, the prosecutor visiting Istanbul, was named attorney general by Saudi King Salman a year ago after a palace shakeup that saw Prince Mohammed sideline his elder, more experienced cousin, Mohammed bin Nayef, for the title of crown prince. Some of those implicated in the killing are close to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the kingdom's heir-apparent whose condemnation of the killing has failed to ease suspicions that he was involved. Erdogan said on Saturday the extradition request was being relayed to Saudi Arabia via Turkey's Justice Ministry.

He also missed several short putts and shot 74, leaving him 13 shots back. Dustin Johnson wouldn't figure to contribute to that opportunity.

Turkey's state broadcaster TRT Haber said Saudi officials at Monday's meeting asked for the whole investigation folder, including evidence, statements and footage.

There had been no formal meeting between the two men, but Mattis spoke with Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir at a dinner attended by all the ministers taking part in a security conference on the Gulf island nation of Bahrain.

"Certainly Turkey with the evidence that they have compiled will ensure that there is more than one review of what is going on there and I am certain the investigation will include the evidence that Turkey has put forward so far", Mattis said.

Turkey has been pushing Saudi Arabia to help locate Khashoggi's body, which has not been found. He has argued that the rulers of Saudi Arabia face a conflict of interest in overseeing any trial because the killing was ordered and directed from within the Saudi government for political reasons.

Turkey has said it shared information regarding the investigation with other countries, including the United States, Germany, France and Russian Federation.
