National Take Back Day Provides Solution To Growing Health Concern

The Sheriff's Office on the last Take Back Day oversaw the collection of 245 pounds of prescription drugs through their two collection points, Pevehouse said.

It's National Drug Take Back Day and the Barling Police Department partnered with the Sebastian County Sheriff's Department Saturday (Oct. 27). People can drop off their unwanted or expired medications at collection sites across the country, something the Biloxi Police Department is taking part in.

According to the DEA's website, during the last take back day in May they collected almost 475 tons of prescription drugs.

However, it was unclear how many employees were behind the letter. But not every tech giant is standing by the military.

The police department is offering a free and anonymous curb-side drop-off. According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.4 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs.

Prescription and over the counter tables, capsules, liquids, injectables, and needles will be accepted. "According to the DEA, the majority of teenagers abusing prescription drugs get them from family, friends and the home medicine cabinet". Pet parents should also know how important it is to keep anything poisonous or harmful, such as prescription medication, out of their pets' reach. Drug take-back events offer safe disposal of medications, a step that can prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths. Personal information will be removed from the containers.

In neighboring Rhode Island, Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza encouraged residents to drop off unused pills at the public safety complex or Walgreens. Previous year they collected around 150 pounds.
