Canada Post strikes move to PEI, Joliette, Que

Canada Postal Workers Union members in the Nanaimo area are participating in rotating strike action on Wednesday, involving 185 members stretching from Lake Cowichan to Bowser.

Victoria saw a day of strike action by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers on October 22, the day the rotating strikes began.

Be prepared to wait several days, if you've ordered parcels online and expect them to be delivered by Canada Post. Canada Post is attempting to minimize the impact on customers.

The union representing Canada Post workers says 6,000 members in Montreal walked off the job Monday night as part of its country-wide rotating strikes. "Overburdening, overtime and overwork are all major issues in this round of bargaining".

Workers in Joliette, Que., had been on strike since 1 a.m. EDT, and the Prince Edward Island communities of Summerside and Charlottetown were hit by strikes that started at midnight local time.

Here at home, Ottawa and Renfrew-Arnprior and Smiths Falls join other municipalities like Deep River and Petawawa and Peterborough who were affected on Tuesday by the strike.

The union is also wants to eliminate a two-tier wage system brought in as part of its last collective agreement, when striking postal workers were legislated back to work in 2011, Murray said.
