WhatsApp confirms Status tab will soon start displaying ads

Whatsapp has a very high user rate and displaying ads on the app will provide great opportunities to the businesses and also to the company as it will act as the primary monetisation for the company. In fact, co-founder Brian Acton - who left the company in 20127 - recently said Facebook apparently had plans to implement ads before it had even completed its acquisition of the service.

Previously WhatsApp charged an annual $1 fee to users after their first year using the service, but this was abandoned in 2016.

"We will be putting ads in "Status". One of the arguably intrusive ones is the "Status" feature, which allows users to upload stories just like they would on Instagram or Snapchat, and share them with their WhatsApp contacts.

David Fisher, Facebook's Vice President of business and advertising organizations, in August this year had declared that WhatsApp was intending to convey promotions to the stage however it was hazy of how or where to put them.

Chris Daniels did not specify the date of this new arrival, deemed as an unpleasant novelty by many users, but reports indicate that it would be introduced early next year.

This decision to place ads comes after WhatsApp launched its Business API in the same month. And Facebook has been considering various ways to monetize WhatsApp as a way to justify the $19 billion purchase price.

WhatsApp is moving forward with a plan to add ads to its popular chat platform, the company confirmed on Wednesday. Like Snapchat Stories, photographs, writings or video posted inside the Status area consequently vanish following 24 hours. WhatsApp has over 1.5 billion users, and works on both mobile and desktop, allowing users to chat across platforms, and offering strong encryption on par with similar chat apps.

It is unclear when there will be ads status.

"Targeted advertising is something that's not making me happy", Acton said in an interview ack then.
