Attorney General Jeff Sessions Steps Down at President Trump's Request

Trump wrote on Wednesday.

In a letter, Sessions said he was resigning at the president's request.

President Donald Trump announced Wednesday afternoon that Jeff Sessions is out as Attorney General, with Sessions' chief of staff Matthew Whitaker taking his place until a new permanent AG is selected and confirmed.

The move left unclear the fate of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who appointed Mueller and has overseen his probe from the beginning. He said the resignation came at "your request".

2018 could be known as the vote of the 'ticked off'
In an interview with ABC on Monday , the president said he wished he had had "a much softer tone" throughout his presidency. And there are reports since that besides the United States army, several militia groups are headed to defend the border.

Florida passes amendment to restore felons’ voting rights

Lion Air jet's airspeed indicator malfunctioned on four flights
On that flight the aircraft had erratic speed and altitude changes for about 10 seconds before the 737 stabilised. An area that investigators will want to explore is how Lion Air addressed a recurring problem on the plane.

"Bob Mueller is totally conflicted", Mr Trump continued but provided no evidence that the team led by Mr Mueller, a Republican appointed by Republicans, is biased against him. He wrote of the special counsel's decision to examine Trump's finances: "Mueller has come up to a red line in the Russian Federation 2016 election-meddling investigation that he is dangerously close to crossing". He will serve our Country well ... "If Mueller is indeed going down this path, Rosenstein should act to ensure the investigation is within its jurisdiction and within the authority of the original directive".

Sessions's recusal stems from the fact he was an active supporter of Trump's 2016 campaign.

Trump's White House has seen extensive turbulence with multiple high level departures. Unlike Sessions, Whitaker is not recused from any campaign-related issues, as he was not part of the Trump campaign. "I don't have an attorney general. But number two, our paramount view is that any attorney general, whether this one or another one, should not be able to interfere with the Mueller investigation in any way", Scjumer said. The president previously said he would not have named Sessions to head the Justice Department had he known the AG would recuse himself from the Russian Federation probe.

"Attorney General Sessions has selflessly dedicated more than 40 years to serving the people of Alabama and the nation", Cornyn said in a statement.
