MI becomes first state in Midwest to legalize recreational marijuana

The state will collect a 10 percent excise tax on marijuana sales, with revenue split between education, infrastructure, and municipalities that have approved marijuana businesses.

Allow individuals 21 and older to; purchase, possess and use marijuana and marijuana-infused edibles, and grow up to 12 marijuana plants for personal consumption.

North Dakota approved a measure to redefine who is a qualified elector to say "only a citizen". It would, however, have legalized cannabis for residents 21-years-old and over, and expunged old convictions for cannabis possession.

Abortion. Alabama voters passed an amendment to the state constitution recognizing "the rights of unborn children, including the right to life", while West Virginia said yes to a measure banning Medicaid from funding abortions, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Voters in Utah and Missouri will consider whether to approve the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes. He says they will now turn to helping communities opt out of having to allow retail pot businesses. Per the Associated Press, the 4 percent sales tax would fund veteran health services.

USA efforts to legalize recreational marijuana use saw mixed results on Tuesday, as voters in MI approved a measure legalizing the drug while North Dakotans looked set to block it.

For instance, Colorado voters approved recreational marijuana in November of 2012, but the amendment to change the law didn't go into effect until December 2012. Canada last month became the first industrialized country to legalize recreational cannabis.

Once considered a taboo product, a growing number of Americans support marijuana legalization. Possession of marijuana by minors would be treated the same as possession of alcohol.
