The House candidate Liuba Grechen Shirley of NY, who is expected to lose her race, made history as the first woman to spend federal campaign funds on childcare.

Democrats Rashida Tlaib of MI and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota will be the first Muslim women to serve in Congress. With some 80 percent of precincts reporting, Ocasio-Cortez has earned 79 percent of the vote, far outpacing the 13 percent going to her Republican rival.
