US Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg Fractures Three Ribs, Hospitalised

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg fractured three ribs after she fell in her office on Wednesday night.

The court, in a statement, said Ginsburg experienced discomfort overnight and went to the hospital this morning, where she was admitted for observation and treatment. She also was hospitalized after a bad reaction to medicine in 2009.

Ginsburg has had a series of health problems. In 2014, Ginsburg had a stent placed in her right coronary artery and has survived cancer multiple times.

Ginsburg broke two ribs in a fall in 2012.

The severity depends in part on whether the ribs are cracked or broken all the way through, and how many are broken.

Ginsburg's heath has been the subject of public concern as the court's oldest justice is one of four liberals on the bench. She is the eldest of the justices, but has not indicated that she plans to retire anytime soon.

US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has served on the court since 1993.
