Melbourne attack: One dead after deadly Bourke Street knife rampage

One person has been killed on a central Melbourne street where a knife wielding man was left in a critical condition after being shot by police.

A knife-wielding man has crashed a auto on Melbourne's Bourke Street Mall then set it on fire, allegedly stabbed three shoppers, killing one, before being shot by police.

A man has been arrested and is under police guard in hospital.

"There's no known link to terrorism at this stage", Clayton said.

A man, believed to be the driver, stabbed three people and was then shot by police.

Another person at the scene said: "I saw people running, screaming".

It's understood a third person has also been taken to hospital.
