Several of those candidates won their races Tuesday night, while other contests remained too close to call. Further, Democrats had an underwhelming performance in OH, where gubernatorial nominee Richard Cordray lost and incumbent senator Sherrod Brown won by only six points against a weak Republican. The losses in governors races in OH and Florida were particularly concerning to Democrats given those states' significance in presidential elections.

The Republicans only flipped one, Alaska, which was previously governed by an Independent, Bill Walker.

But they missed in Florida, where Andrew Gillum conceded a race he narrowly lost, and OH, where first-time candidate Richard Cordray fell short against veteran Mike DeWine.

A simple House majority would be enough to impeach Trump if evidence surfaces that he obstructed justice or that his 2016 campaign colluded with Russian Federation. Nor are Democrats likely to craft a governing coalition so long as they cleave to the country's increasingly discredited elites. In a recent address, he also hinted at possible impeachment proceedings against the president.
