Le'Veon Bell will not expected to report the Steelers before deadline

Le'Veon Bell's season and days with the Steelers appear to be over. There has been no communication between the sides this weekend to this point, I'm told, as the team waits to see if Bell signs his contract by the 4 p.m. ET deadline on Tuesday.

Despite owner Art Rooney's comments on RB Le'Veon Bell, the team is not expecting their star RB to play for them this season, sources say. The money hungry running back has been teasing his return over the past 10 weeks of the season.

If the running back does not report and sign his franchise tender by the Tuesday deadline, he would lose an accrued National Football League season toward becoming a free agent.

Bell may end up hitting free agency as he hoped without putting additional stress on his body this year. Applying the franchise tag for the third time would pay the average of the top five quarterback salaries ($25 million) and the Steelers won't go that route, and they surely won't match an offer sheet from another team under the transition tag. Per Schefter, Bell could have made over $1.7 million dollars by being on the roster during the Steelers' bye week and by playing against the Carolina Panthers, but chose not to. It is incredible how little is known about the franchise tag around the NFL.

Bell, who was designated with the franchise tag for the second year in a row this season, had been slated to earn $14.5 million. Bell has openly claimed he was going to return multiple times and has proven the other, so why should we believe these reports?
