III basketball player suspended for ruthlessly elbowing opponent

Kewan Platt, who attends Fitchburg State University in MA, could face assault charges after landing a running elbow to an opponent this week.

Kewan Platt, who was recently honored as MESCAC men's basketball player of the week, dropped Nate Tenaglia after checking to see if the referee was paying attention.

Nichols would go on to win the game 84-75 and Platt finished with a team-high 16 points.

The incident took place in the final minutes of Tuesday's night's game between the Fitchburg Falcons and the Nichols Bisons in Masachussets.

Initial rumblings on social media indicated that Platt was not called for a foul, but ESPN's Myron Medcalf reports that several people in attendance say Platt was ejected after picking up a technical foul earlier in the game.

Lewis laughed and smiled when reporters followed up and asked if Jackson could come in and help. "I got a plan", Lewis said. Jackson was sacked by Cleveland in late October after the team opened the season with a 2-5-1 record.

Nichols College's Athletic Director Chris Colvin also addressed the situation, saying officials were "troubled by the unfortunate incident" and continued monitoring Tenaglia's health after medical tests found that he did not suffer a concussion.

In the pantheon of great sports freak-outs and dirty plays, we have a new contender for a Top-5 spot thanks to Fitchburg State's Kewan Platt. The case is being reviewed at the student conduct level for consideration of further sanctions.

"The Fitchburg State community is appalled by the conduct displayed during Tuesday night's home basketball game", Burke said.

Divito said school officials were glad Tenaglia was OK and relieved "most of the team didn't see it" due to concerns about a potential altercation. The MASCAC has also vacated his player of the week award. "On behalf of the MASCAC and Fitchburg State, we apologise to the Nichols College student-athlete, the team and institution". His behaviour goes against the MASCAC's mission which includes good sportsmanship.
