Baker Mayfield on Hue Jackson criticism: ‘I speak my mind’

Baker Mayfield on Hue Jackson criticism: ‘I speak my mind’

"People took it as me personally attacking Hue, but that's not it", he said.

Mayfield didn't back down Wednesday from how he handled Sunday's handshake with former head coach and Bengals special assistant Hue Jackson as well as his postgame comments at Paul Brown Stadium. "Coach gets fired, he decides to pick up a job, an available job that Marvin Lewis obviously reached out to him about".

Some were supportive of Mayfield and others were critical, but Mayfield said Wednesday that none of it is going to change the way he carries himself in the future.

"Everybody likes to make things a bigger deal than they really are", Mayfield said.

Mayfield noted that Woody is on a talk show to offer his opinions, and he is entitled to do the same. That is not it. That's how it is.

"Although I'm an athlete, I'm not a cookie-cutter quarterback", Mayfield said. Never have been. Never will be. That is just how I am. I speak my mind, that's just how I am. I'm not looking for anybody's approval.

Keith stepped out of the Colts Neck mansion, at which point Paul shot him multiple times in the head, the prosecutor said. Gramiccioni declined to elaborate, saying the investigation was incomplete.

There is no strife against Jackson by any means, but in Mayfield's eyes, it was a decision by Jackson that he didn't agree with, especially the fact that he is joining a division rival that the Browns face twice a year. "It's about this team and what we have and we have to stick together and play together". I do not regret any of it.

On Monday, in response to criticism from ESPN's Damien Woody, Mayfield called Jackson "fake."

Asked about describing his former head coach in such a negative light, the young gunslinger brushed it aside like a wayward pass rusher. Things happen in pro football.

"We've moved on. We have our coach right now". "Yeah, a quarterback that's a little different from some of the guys to have a voice, but that's just how I've always been and I'm not going to change for anybody".

If only the rest of the world could also move on.
