Mercedes-AMG GT R PRO Officially Revealed

Those with keen eyes would also spot the new vents on top of the wheel arches and larger blade on the fender vents. This allows influencing the body dive and roll as the well as the traction of the AMG GT R PRO even more selectively.

Revealed at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, the 2020 AMG GT R Pro now leads the updated AMG GT line up as their new range topping variant.

A fresh parking package will furthermore be available, as will the "brilliant blue magno" hue first introduced with the AMG GT 4-Door Coupé and two-tone leather upholstery. At the rear, there's a new diffuser as well with revised exhausts. "The agile responses to all driver commands and the overall performance now deliver even more of that incomparable feeling that our racing drivers experience on the track". The carbon roof also gets a double bubble design. The sports vehicle also features a carbon fiber shear panel on the underbody that promises to improve rigidity and add stability.

Power figures for the lineup remain unchanged too, with 469 hp and 465 lb. -ft. for the base GT and an increase to 550 hp and 502 lb. -ft. for the GT C coupe and convertible.

Following exterior revisions for model-year 2018 that saw the two-door sports vehicle welcome AMG's Panamericana grille design, the Mercedes-AMG GT enters 2020 with reworked LED headlights modelled after the units fitted to the GT 4-Door. Inside, the changes are more evident, where GT models get a fully digital instrument cluster, as well as a redesigned steering wheel with more prominent side controls - similar to what you'll find in the AMG C63. Meanwhile the infotainment system is shared with the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door.

So, there's new AMG coil-over suspension which can have its spring preload length adjusted mechanically, as well as its compression and the damper rebound, all from a tool-free system on the damper itself. The front and rear suspension setups are further stiffened by a carbon-fibre torsion bar front and hollow tube steel anti-rollbar in the rear.

Evidence of the attention to detail applied to the Pro's chassis comes with the ditching of conventional bearings in the rear upper wishbones for Uniball spherical bearings, which join the existing lower wishbone Uniballs.

In the hands of GT3 racing driver Maro Engel, the GT R Pro completed a circuit of the Nürburgring North Loop in 07:04.632 minutes, which, according to the AMG folks, is a considerable improvement on the pervious lap time set by the AMG GT R. Carbon ceramic composite brakes come standard, as do lightweight AMG Performance wheels.

Like the "standard" AMG GT R, the Pro features a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine with 577 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque between 1900 rpm and 5500 rpm.

"The AMG GT embodies the core of our brand, "Driving Performance", in a unique way".
