Nissan spruces up Murano for 2019

Nissan spruces up Murano for 2019

Building on decades of Maxima vehicles, Nissan is positioning the 2019 Maxima as "near luxury sports sedan" and it has the looks and specs to match the claim.

The 2019 Maxima expands the availability of its Safety Shield 360 active safety and driver-assist technologies, such as automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot warning, high-beam assist and rear automatic braking.

The revisions to the popular third-generation Murano's exterior add a more pronounced front V-motion grille, redesigned LED headlights and taillights, new LED fog lights, new 18-inch and 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheel designs and three fresh new exterior colors - Sunset Drift Chromaflair, Mocha Almond Pearl and Deep Blue Pearl.

That said, Dan Monhke, senior VP of sales and marketing for Nissan in the USA, was adamant that the company remains committed to its sedans.

The SR Premium package-the only other option outside of Platinum Reserve, as all other trims are equipment-inclusive-brings a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, and Safety Shield 360 tech.

Inside, the family-focused SUV has new semi-aniline leather-appointed seats with diamond-quilted inserts, contrasting micro-piping trim for the seats, door armrests and centre console lid and three new interior trim finishers: Dark Wood-Tone, Light Wood-Tone and Metallic.

As with the mid-size crossover, Nissan will put the 2019 Maxima on sale in December. The 2019 Murano also adds standard 2nd row supplemental side air bags and front passenger supplemental knee air bag. Additionally, the automaker made its rear door alert and driver alertness system standard on the Murano. Unlike the smaller Altima, the Maxima won't be offered with all-wheel drive or a turbo-4 engine. Under the hood, Nissan sticks with the standard 3.5-liter V6 making 300 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque, mated to the same CVT transmission and sport-tuned steering, brakes and suspension. The Maxima has a sporty image, but developed on the same front-drive platform as the previous Teana/Altima.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard across all trim levels. SL and Platinum trims get a better navigation system with online point-of-interest search and satellite images.
