Delhi Daredevils renamed Delhi Capitals for IPL 2019

Delhi Daredevils will be called as Delhi Capitals for IPL 2019.

Ahead of the next year IPL auctions, Delhi released their former captain Gautam Gambhir along with Jason Roy, Glenn Maxwell and Liam Plunkett and Mohammed Shami. The new name for the Indian Premier League's Delhi franchise was announced on Tuesday in a glitzy function in Delhi.

Ahead of the 2018 edition, the GMR group entered into a 50-50 partnership with Mumbai-based steel company Jindal South West (JSW) Sports for the ownership of the team.

Having retained 14 players from the previous team, Delhi can fill up to ten slots - seven Indian positions and three overseas spots - during the auction on December 18.

Delhi are yet to win their maiden IPL title despite participating in all 11 editions. "Shikhar Dhawan is a proven performer in IPL and he adds the flawless experience to the motivated young core of ours", said Parth Jindal, GMR's Corporate Chairman, during the event. It finishing at the bottom of the table in IPL 2018.
