Bomb kills three in Iranian port city Chabahar: state media

A suicide bomber killed at least three people in Iran's southeastern port city of Chabahar on Thursday, state media reported.

Mohammad Hadi Marashi, deputy governor for security affairs, told state TV that two police officers were killed in the attack.

Videos posted online by Iranian news agencies, purportedly from Chabahar, showed thick smoke rising in the area after the blast.

Rahmdel Bameri, Chabahar's acting governor, was among the Iranian officials who said two victims were killed by the December 6 car-bomb attack.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

TV also reported shooting in the area, which is located in the mainly Sunni province of Sistan-Baluchestan that has always been plagued by unrest from both drug smuggling gangs and separatist militants.

State television broke into its regular broadcast to report the attack, as such assaults are rare in the Islamic Republic of Iran. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. In September, gunmen dressed as soldiers attacked a military parade in Ahvaz, killing and injuring dozens.

"India strongly condemns today's despicable terrorist attack in Chabahar, Iran".

In June a year ago, IS militants attacked parliament and the shrine of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, killing at least 18 people and wounding more than 50.

The television said several people were also wounded in the terrorist attack.

Tehran accuses its Sunni-led regional rival Saudi Arabia and the United States of funding most of these groups, a charge that Riyadh and Washington deny.

Chabahar is a key port city on the Gulf of Oman about 100 kilometers west of Iran's border with Pakistan.
