Nokia 8.1 now official with 6.18-inch display, Android Pie, and more

HMD Global that makes and sells Nokia phones has launched Nokia 8.1 in its value flagship smartphone line-up with "PureDisplay" screen technology at an event here. Earlier last week, HMD Global launched Nokia 7.1 which was an updated version of Nokia 6.1 Plus.

Being a Nokia device the 8.1 ships with Android One launching on Android 9.0 Pie.

Well, we knew it was coming today and so it did, the rebranded Nokia X7 can now be called Nokia 8.1 for worldwide buyers and it'll be sitting in the upper mid-range price category at over $400. HMD chief Juho Sarvikas said that the Nokia 8.1 is the direct successor to the Nokia 7 Plus and the company's newest premium affordable smartphone. The device would be available in blue/silver, steel/copper and iron/steel colour variants, starting in mid-December for 399 euros (roughly Rs 32,000). The rear camera comes with features such as Optical Image Stabilization, Electronic Image Stabilization, dual PDAF, AI scene detection and optimization for low-light photography.

"For specs, Nokia 8.1 features a 6.18" FHD+ HDR10 display, Snapdragon 710 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, dual rear-facing cameras (12MP + 13MP), 20MP front-facing camera, 3,500mAh battery, 3.5mm headphone jack, and Android Pie.

As per the Nokia X7 of China, Nokia 8.1 will run on Android 8.1 Oreo powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC.

-The new Nokia 8.1 features slightly bigger notch similar to the one seen on an iPhone X. The Nokia 8.1's display also comes with a 96-percent NTSC color gamut, DCI-P3 color gamut, HDR video playback, 1500:1 contrast ratio and 500nits of brightness. The phones uses Zeiss optics for its lenses and selfies are taken care by an 8MP sensor up front. It is capable of recording 4K videos at 30 fps with OIS.
