Major League Baseball hot stove: Phillies acquire Jean Segura from Mariners

First baseman Carlos Santana and shortstop J.P. Crawford were among the players headed to Seattle, while relievers Juan Nicasio and James Pazos head to Philadelphia in the deal. In 2018, he had a.304/.341/.415 slash line with 10 home runs, 63 RBIs, 91 runs scored, and 20 stolen bases in 632 plate appearances.

The Phillies reportedly remain interested in signing Manny Machado, Bryce Harper and Patrick Corbin in free agency.

Along with his defensive skills, Segura has proven to be a valuable hitter as well, so if Philadelphia fans weren't excited about the shortstop before, they better get on board the hype train since this could turn out to be one of the most underrated moves of the offseason. Source indicates Segura is expected to waive his no-trade clause and be dealt as early as Monday.

With the trade for Segura, the infield is beginning to look pretty crowded.

Trump to name former Fox anchor Heather Nauert as next United Nations ambassador
She oversaw public diplomacy in Washington and all of the roughly 275 overseas US embassies, consulates and other posts. Israeli leaders nonetheless thanked her and feted the results as proof of wide support for Israel's position.

The Phillies are also able to move on from J.P. Crawford.

Segura may not be on the same level as Machado or Harper, but this addition will certainly make it clear to other potential free agents that Philadelphia is taking the necessary approach to be a top contender in 2019.

J.P. Crawford, the 13th pick in the 2013 Major League Baseball draft, played 49 games for the Phillies past year.

Segura first became a name to look out for in 2013 when he was named to his first MLB All-Star game as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers. He mostly plays short, the position Machado has said he'd like to stay at, but just two season ago - one in which Segura hit a career-high.319 and finished 13 in the NL MVP voting with the Diamondbacks - he appeared at second base in 141 games. The Phillies also have a $17 million club option for 2023, with a $1 million buyout. He could be a quality lead-off man if that's the path the Phillies choose.
