New satellite images reveal North Korea is expanding key missile base

New satellite images reveal North Korea has expanded a long-range missile base in the country's mountainous interior in defiance of its stated commitment to denuclearize, CNN reported Wednesday.

The photographs, commissioned by the American television news broadcaster CNN, show continued activity at Yeongjeo-dong long-range missile base and the establishment of a new facility seven miles away.

As of August 2018, researchers said North Korea is continuing to construct an extremely large underground facility.

"We watch North Korea very closely".

But Ri's main focus will be to secure China's support on the easing of United Nations sanctions, rather than speeding up his country's denuclearisation process.

"Our analytical line has not changed" a US intelligence official told VOA, when asked about the images. "Meeting Kim again only validates Kim's strategy of using Trump to play for time and sanctions relief, and keep North Korea on the pathway to becoming a de facto nuclear weapon state", Medeiros told The New York Times.

While Kim is not violating any agreement with the USA or South Korea by continuing to produce and deploy existing types of missiles, the identification of yet another active North Korean missile base comes at a time when some members of the Trump administration are declaring that Pyongyang has failed to uphold its end of the bargain thus far.

South Korea has officially denied any discussions with the North regarding a date for an inter-Korea summit in Seoul, but sources in government say the North has provided specific days when Kim Jong Un could travel to the South, according to a local press report.

"They have not lived up to the commitments so far", Bolton said at The Wall Street Journal's annual CEO Council conference in Washington.

President Trump, who met with Kim during a summit in Singapore in June, supports Kim traveling to South Korea and thinks it could pave the way for another summit after the first of the year.

Kim announced the dismantlement of a nuclear facility at another site in Nyongbyon at a summit with South Korean leader Moon Jae-in in September.
